Employees from Caterpillar will be moving to Tucson, AZ over the next five years with the opening of a Caterpillar Regional Headquarters to be located downtown Tucson. Curious about the Tucson lifestyle, Caterpillar employees have sent questions regarding relocation to our beautiful desert pueblo. What better opportunity for blogging than to help provide information to those contemplating moving to the metropolitan Tucson area
Question #2: What is the average square foot price for an existing home in Tucson, AZ?
The City of Tucson is 227 square miles, Oro Valley, 36 square miles, Marana 121, and Vail adds another 18. All in all, metropolitan Tucson covers a very wide area! Great questions to ask yourselves when moving to Tucson are: Do I want to live in a historic district? Downtown? Do I prefer rural or urban? Hills? Subdivisions? A longer commute? A short commute? Would I like my home on an acre of land? Are views important? Two story home a must? These and other questions are very important to pin down as you begin your search for a new home in metropolitan Tucson.
If we take a 30 minute commute circle from the approximate location of the new Caterpillar headquarters downtown, you can see this provides you with a wide range of options in your home search! Here is a handy commute time calculator through Trulia that can give you a bird's eye view and approximation: Commuting Time in Tucson Map
Another item to factor in is the difference in population Tucson experiences during peak months! Because we are a college town AND a destination city, and many, many part time residents take advantage of our moderate winter temperatures -- traffic swells as the temperature drops in Tucson, AZ. The last study I could find marked 300,000 residents as area "snowbirds". Increased population = more traffic, so times can change as the visitors and part-time residents arrive.
