If You Don't Know...Please Don't Tell....

I ran across this timely post today written by Sally K. & David L. Hanson, Broker Associates with EXP Realty, Southeastern Wisconsin. Advice, flammable replies, dirty laundry, opinions without fact  - it can all come back to bite you.  What image are you projecting - what words might be contrary to the National Code of Ethics REALTORs abide by - what actions diminish our reputations as professionals?  

All points to keep in mind when grievences are aired....  Thanks Sally and David.


Social media is often an outlet for emotion...the "done me wrong" song can easily be heard about service companies, retailers....and sometimes...Spouses. You will find the "need to air grievances" peppereddone me wrong throughout Facebook groups and other places. There is a difference between opinion and fact...you don't have to "like" someone...a company or service...but you do have to be honest in your criticism.  

    If you Spouse ran away with a co-worker and emptied the bank accounts...might not be the best place to air this kind of laundry socially so the world can see it. Comments recently on a similar situation were things like..."Get even...charge every credit card to the max and he'll owe you half."  "He will have to return all the money credit cardsyour parents willed/gave him." Hmmmm...over extend credit ...and now you have bills for legal representation...and undetermined maintenance or child support...probably not a great thought. Money willed or inherited money freely given...nope..not a "recoverable" amount.

      The sound of your own Blog....complaint...history of experience that damages another person, company, service...without basis in fact and is published with malicious intent can fall into the hands of lawyers willing to take on suits when such actions are deemed libelous.

    Think twice before you hit the keyboard with advice that is beyond your professional scope...or criticism that may be difficult to prove...beyond that infamous...shadow of a doubt. Watch your words ...guard your keyboard...shhhh....there is a time and a place...know what they are and be careful.
