Termites in Tucson: If They are Not Here Yet, They're Coming

I've mentioned termites in two of my posts this past week and thought I ought to catch ya'll up on the current situation of Termites in Tucson.

Fact:  They haven't gone away

Fact:  They can be controlled with regular pest service

Fact:  I wrote about them back in 2011 and there are some amazing photos in this posting.

Termites in Tucson

Moving to Tucson and concerned about termites?

According to information provided by our local termite treatment vendors -- Tucson has two common termites, and even one of those is way more prevalent than the other. There are those that fly - and the subterranean ones that go after dry wood. Desert = dry wood, so you can quickly guess which ones pose the most problems here in Tucson.

What does that mean you say? Again, most of the time, exterior damage is most commonly found, and a stud here or there might need to be replaced along with having a termite treatment for the home.  Often, the affected location can be replaced or repaired.

What to spot them? First and foremost - ALWAYS have a termite inspection when buying a home in Tucson, AZ. Secondly, you can look for small brown tunnels hanging from the ceiling, or sandy streaks coming up from the ground onto exterior or even interior walls. Be extra diligent when buying a home that's been updated or remodeled.

What do do, what to do? Ask your real estate agent for a list of trusted termite professionals, and have them assess and treat the situation. In Tucson, AZ, if you are getting a loan and your home has termites -- you must treat the entire home. Sometimes this is negotiable between buyer and seller -- so again, use a trusted REALTOR to help you with your home purchase.

Once your home is treated, warranties are available for a cost from your local Termite company. Because, again, if your home doesn't have termites now, doesn't mean it won't have them next month.

Cara Marcelle Mancuso Good post and termites are so costly to homeowners if ignored. We see lots of termite activity in San Diego and Florida, so I have to believe they are in your area.

Good information to share with people in the Tucson area. Termites are very common in my area, both dry wood and subterranean. Treatment options are many, including preventative ones.

Very interesting.  I always thought you guys down south had the flying termites.  We've got the subterranean ones here.  Never heard of flying ones spotted in our area.

Sounds like termites being found on a property is not a reason to panic in Tucson.

Good morning Cara.  I'm amazed how many people around here do not request a termite inspection or policy when they buy.

Sacramento is one of those places that has subterranean termites.  The good news is they seem to be a little easier and less costly to treat than some of the other types of termites.
