I had my third listing appointment this month last week and in looking back, was surprised at my "inner" attitude.
We all know, especially as folks in Sales careers, about that Law of Attraction. According to Wikipedia, "the Law of Attraction is the belief that positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person's life."
I look at cashiers, ticket folks, waitstaff - these people "people", working so closely with the public - I truly feel their attitude is contagious. How about when someone let's you cut in in traffic, or go ahead of you in the checkout line, or hold a door open - that positivity generally is passed on. It's a great thing.
So back to my listing appointment. I really wanted to list the home. I liked the house, the neighborhood, the owners - I could just tell it would be a wonderful experience. They had the home listed before and were disappointed with their service - and I like to rescue as well. A part of me loves making everything right again with a smooth transaction.
So, a day went by and I began to get nervous because I knew I was up against another agent or two vying for the listing as well. I began to think I've been slipping, because I didn't get a listing a few months back. THOSE folks were nice enough to tell me that although they thought I'd do a wonderful job, they went with another company because it has a stronger National presence. Oh boy, I had blown informing them of the National and International Reach of Berkshire Hathaway - a painful lesson.
So...that failure reared it's ugly head again. The negative self talk began. You know the cliche' - good angel on one shoulder, devil on the other...
To combat the voices - I went back to the drawing board, back to work. Sent some information of value to the sellers. Let them know I was happy to have met them. They wrote back and I answered another question with some research to back it up.
I'm happy to say I received notice that the new listing was mine and that meant that so far this year I was 10 listings, 2 missed listings. In the last month - 3 for 3. Perfect score? No way - we're not the perfect fit for everyone. But good reminder that negativity won't win me the next opportunity either.

Good job, Cara, and good reminder how important our mental attitude is. Your follow-up with the sellers was excellent.
Hello Cara - the "return to the drawing board" beckons and you answered with enthusiasm. You are right - it's contagious. And in the best sort of way.
Cara I have long been a believer of the Law of Attraction! Positive begets positive, negative begets negative. Pretty simple isn't it! And you proved in once again by backing up and shifting your thoughts around. Awesome!

I think it is so important to be mindful of those negative thoughts that pop into our heads at times. You did exactly what you should do - focused on the positive. Congratulations - that's quite a nice score.
