SWDesertHomes in Tucson, Marana, Oro Valley, Vail & More!: Do you Recycle Your Grease?

Do you Recycle Your Grease?

You can, yes you can!

I tend to pour mine in a can and refrigerate, throwing away when hard, but this can be trickier when it's a FryDaddy that needs changing, or something larger.

Tucson area residents can participate in the Recycle your Cooking Grease event just after the new year!  January 9, 2021

Save your used cooking fats, oil and grease to drop off at the free 16th Annual Grease Collection & Recycling Event, Saturday, January 9, 2021.

I'm sure you know,  cooking grease in your kitchen should never be poured down the drain. Instead, store it in containers and bring it to the 16th Annual Grease Collection and Recycling Event. (Those plastic coffee bins work great, especially from Costco!!)

From their website, "The Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department and its partners, Grecycle, the Town of Sahuarita, Jacobs, and Gold Star Pumping invite you to start the year off right by taking your leftover holiday grease to one of the six collection sites listed below on Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m."

Of course, please take Covid precautions and remember that due to the global pandemic, they ask community participants to wear a mask when dropping off their containers of grease.

Here's the drop off locations:

East O'Rielly Chevrolet 6160 E. Broadway Blvd.

Midtown Tucson City Council Ward 3 Office 1510 E. Grant Rd.

Northwest Pima County College - Northwest Campus 7600 N. Shannon Rd.

South Kino Sports Complex 2500 E. Ajo Way

Sahuarita Sahuarita Town Hall Complex 375 W. Sahuarita Center Way

West Pima County College - West Campus 2202 W. Anklam Rd.

Also of importance, You can always recycle your grease at the year-round location below:

Agua Nueva WRF/Jacobs 2947 W. Calle Agua Nueva, Tucson, AZ 85745 (520) 405-0438  That's located off the frontage road south of El Camino de Tierra.  It's currently under construction but if you take El Camino de Tierra as close as you can to the west side of I-10, you'll see the signs.

Why recycle??

To help keep our Tucson sewer systems flowing properly, thereby ensuring the Department can safely contain, convey, and treat the community’s wastewater.  Water is our precious resource here in the SW Desert.

Cara you might think this is odd but I've never used grease to cook so I never have any to get rid of. You made me think about it tho.......not sure what I'd cook using grease.  Or would I want to as I'm not a fan of fried food.  Random thoughts!

That is rare I am sure, Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, CRS, Broker, Instructor

For browning meat I use olive oil, but maybe deep fry one or twice yearly myself. When I was young, I didn't know better, lol.
